AWARDED TO
CHAPLAIN WESLEY MCDUFFIE

On September 11, 2001 this Nation was attacked by terrorists and great damage was done to this country, a part of which was the total destruction of the World Trade Center Complex in New York City, wherein thousands lost their lives and hundreds of firefighters, police and emergency workers were killed in their attempt to save others.

On October 20, 2001 thru October 27, 2001 Chaplain McDuffie did respond to an urgent
need for Chaplains and counselors at “Ground Zero” more recently referred to as “Ground HERO” the site of the destroyed World Trade Center Complex in New York City, by volunteering his time, skills, spirit, Financial and personal resources to give aid and comfort to the heroic firefighters, police, emergency workers and survivors of the families of those lost.

Chaplain McDuffie counseled with over 100 persons to give aid and support to them at great expense to his own spirit and placed himself at great personal risk while working “ON SITE” of the collapsed buildings and assisted with the victims as they were pulled from the rubble and spent countless hours above and beyond what would be expected of anyone serving in that zone; and it is also recognized that Chaplain McDuffie’s wife and family did make a great sacrifice, and unselfishly and sacrificially support Chaplain McDuffie so that others could benefit.

Chaplin McDuffie gave up his vacation time from his normal job and spent much of his own monies to respond to those in need, and His personal sacrifice of time away from his
family to counsel with so many and because he was so professional and exemplary in
the performance of his task, he is the only one known by this agency to be requested
to come back for further service to that area.

Chaplain McDuffie did, again, take personal vacation and loss of pay from his normal
job to return to New York City to give additional support and counsel from November 24, 2001 thru November 28, 2001 and did again serve with honor and distinction; and He has generously, and unselfishly given of himself in a heroic manner to benefit others in a time of great need.
